Schools got What???

http://www.cleveland.com/open/index.ssf/2011/03/schools_local_governments_take.html

The new budget that Kasich has proposed would give the Schools an 11.5% cut. This would force schools into proposing new tax levies, which would cause a lot of people in the community to become upset with the district since no one WANTS to pay more taxes, unless you're a teacher. This may seem like a severe cut, which it is, but people depend upon the government too much. Schools should be able to find a way to cover their costs or cut costs on a lot of the expenses. For example, a school like Cardington that has very few students, does not need a 1:2(exaggeration) teacher to student ratio. There are too many classes that are core classes that have roughly 10 students in it. If we combine students that are taking the same courses, we could reduce staff, reducing expenses. This would mean a lot of jobless teachers, I understand. That's why if we take more money away from Cardington, and give it to a big school like Gahana, we could have a 25:1(estimate) instead of 100:1(exaggeration again). That's just my view on the proposed budge in which schools would lose more money, but that money, in my opinion, will be sent to new programs that will benefit even more than having overstaffed schools.

  1. I think that its good to have new more beneficial programs for students, but i also think that its terrible that we are losing money for our schools.
